This album is the first release of the Lophelia project, which aims to bring together all things sound art/music and climate/environment.

'Polar' is the result of a collaboration between sound artists and polar scientists. Each polar scientist was paired with a sound artist, who went on to create some sounds (all of which occurred during the worldwide coronavirus lockdowns). Our aim was to bring the polar science to life, and to communicate some of the soul of the remote polar regions. While most people never get to visit, scientists develop an intimate knowledge of their study areas. The poles are also of interest as they are particularly vulnerable to climate change, with large-scale increases in ice shelf melting and sea ice loss observed today. Please see individual track descriptions for more details of how each was created.

All profits raised from the sale of this album will be donated to Friends of the Earth.
